After a spirited round of competitive bids, 701 El Centro Street in South Pasadena has been sold. The closing was in late May, 2025.

The property was originally listed at $899,000 and consisted of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on a 3,211 square foot corner lot. After the listing price was set and all the marketing materials had already been printed – the home next door at 623 El Centro Street sold for $1,775, 000. That sale immediately created a list of buyers who desired the same location and drove strong interest.

701 El Centro had 21 offers and just about all of those were above the asking price. Ultimately the home sold for $1,264,300. That price was 40 percent above the original asking price.

701 El Centro is on a prime street and is a character home on a corner lot that’s easily walkable to Trader Joe’s, Orange Grove Park, Farmer’s Market, the Metro Rail, Arroyo Vista Elementary and tons of shops and restaurants.

The original property owner had moved to South Pasadena at 701 El Centro Street in 1977. She lived in that home until just recently when she moved to assisted living at the age of 93. That’s 48 years in the same house. The home then went for sale for the first time in 48 years.
